Hi guys, have anyone ever asked LFS owners where they get their shrimps from? Maybe there a farm breeding and selling shrimps. who knows....

As far as i know, there are not shrimp farms at present...
no one would want to set up a plot of land just to breed shrimps...

As far as I know, most shrimps come from Indonesia. Very few are from Taiwan and India.

In Indonesia, there is a farm who had set aside certain space for breeding shrimps like the bee, tiger, blue and the spotted shrimps. This farm is presently also working on the highly sought after crystal red. According to them, the shrimp should hit Singapore market next year.... :wink:

I'm afraid I can't reveal too much as most of the LFS here is taking in the stock from this supplier.... The farm won't entertain hobbyists like us as they're more on the export business....

One thing that I hardly mention is that I'm also a 'shrimp' guy

I've being keeping shrimps for quite a while and had also done some research on them.

For those who are keen to keep crystal red, wait till this year end or early next year the shrimps will hit our local market where the shrimps are breed in Indonesia. Hope that by then the price will drop drastically as compare to the price the LFS are selling at $25 each...

What kind of shrimps are you currently keeping? Are you familiar with the pearl shrimps? I need some info regarding this pearl shrimp eg, what they feed on, etc,etc.
