ice probe efficiency

Hi all, I've posted this queries in another forum. Was hoping I could get better response here.

I was contemplating getting a 2nd hand ice probe without the temperature controller. One chap is selling it for $180.
It was claimed by the owner that it could chill a 30 gallon tank to 25degrees. I was wondering is it able to maintain this temperature throughout the day. Logically, the temperature will be higher during hot days while lower during colder days since the ice probe is not controlled by the temperature controller. Can anyone share their views?

Also, what about the fishes/shrimps/snails in the tank. Will it be too cold for them during cold days?

I not too sure how it can maintan a constant temperature throughout the day without a temperature controller. As you already mention temperature changes throughout the day and it also depends on the water circulation within the aquarium.

Hi Kho, me too ain't sure how it's gonna maintain a constant temp. I was thinking if it's cool enough for my mosses, I don't mind the temp hovering around a range from 26 - 28 degrees. I was wondering also if this 'fluctuating' temp has any detriment effect on these beatiful mosses.

With enough pcs of these "probe", I think it can bring down the water temperature about 2~3 degree celcius relative to ambient temperature. Very much like fan. The fluctuation will be very gradual and there is no cause for concern.

This solid state cooling device has very limited heat exchange capacity, at least for now with the limited size. And I think it is suitable for tank of less than 80 litres. Chiller is still the big brother for the medium term.
