    Hi...

I intent to use ADA aquasoil for my 2ft tank...
I'm going to plant some app, e.tenellus & dwarf hairgrass...

My question is whether i'll need to put base fertilisers or just the ADA aquasoil will be enough?
If adding base fertilisers would be better, what kind of brands do you all suggest me to use?

    ADA soil

    Izzat,

If you read from ADA, ADA soil recommends the use of Powersoil as it's base fertiliser and having the ovarious ADA soil on top of it just like the norm we use with other standard planted setup.

But some rules are meant to be broken and that's what I did. Mine I just use the Africana ADA soil (Dark Brown) in my 3 ft planted and my plants seems to be thriving. I hate to see my fish being poisoned by the fertiliser as I do some minor changes when pulling out dead or unwanted plant in the tank. Although I must say that using ADA soil will break into small pieces overtime thus making yr water cloudy when you do major water change or rescaping.

I have grown tenellus and hair grass before using ADA soil and they do grow very fast provided good lighting and suffucient dosage of liquid fertiliser are given.
If I have a dollar & you have a dollar & we swap, neither is better off. BUT if I have an idea & you have an idea & we swap we are both richer

    Hi Rashid...

I've just bought a base fertiliser brand Ocean Free...
I've found out that there are some kind of growth or mold...
Can i still use the base fertilisers or i should go to the shop and change for a new 1?

How long do you let your tank run before adding fishes?
It's because the aquasoil might make the pH too low...

    Izzat,

Yes ADA soil do lowers down the pH value and the more you put the more it goes down. as for the Ocean Free fertiliser, may I know what kinda mold or growth are you refering to? If its nothing serious just break them up and put them into the tanks. It should be fine but if you have doubts maybe it's best to return it back to the LFS.

    Thanks Rashid...

I've called the lfs and the owner told me it should be safe...
I guess it's like that kind of mold that grows on bread with the presence of moisture...

I wil throw away the affect portion and use the other portion...
Hope that it will be successful...

    Izzat,

Good to know you. May I suggest that you do one more things for us? Compact your signature (into lesser lines) - it is taking up unnecessary view. Worst of all, every post your reply repeats all that - your advertisements. Personally, I think you should advertise that only in Trading Post.

Back to your questions. Based on the materials used, I think the concept behind Amano's substrate is quite different from other commercial base fertilization in that Amano want to acheive naturally base fertilising. This is obvious from the light and porous Aqauasoil which are idea bacterias bed to convert fish waste into plant nutrients. The power sands are a form of long term root stimulator and the water spaces around them encourages water movements in the substrate.

I'll second that. Although we don't have any rules against long signatures, it goes against the spirit of this forum when hobbyists advertise their products in their signatures. To me, that's highly irritating. If you want to advertise your stuff, please do it in the Trading Post subforum as Freddy suggested.
