Hi folks, I'm wondering if any of you are growing this plant:

I'll be receiving 5 stems of this plant and would like to know how easy
you find this plant to cultivate. Judging by the picture, I would think it
    requires fairly high light.

    TIA,

    Bill

seen it in one of the LFS, grows like a weed! be prepared to spend time trimming

yes high light and good CO2, probably cool water will be good as well. and watch out for aggressive Yamato shrimps.
why I don't do garden hybrids and aquarium strains: natural species is a history of Nature, while hybrids are just the whims of Man.

Hi Heng Wah, or do you go by "Choy?"

I'm curious to how big those whorls are in diameter. Are they like 4" in
diameter? I may have to rethink their going into the Walstad 7 gallon I've
set up. Sounds like they will grow out of that in no time. I'm getting this
plant from a guy in New York state, no yamato shrimps

    Regards,

The size depends alot of the tank condition you have. Like what Heng Wah (his given name or first name) mentioned, high light and higher CO2 concentration will bring about good growth - and bigger in size.
For instance, the Ludwigia Cuba can vary from 1 inch to 4 inch in diameter.

Hi Bill, take your pick from "Choy", "Heng Wah" or "HW" these are the common ones, I do get addressed as "Wah", "Choy Wah", and other combinations which I do not recommend.

Like FC said, the size of the whorls varies and in fact gets bigger as it grows so that they eventually look like little tornadoes (you live anywhere near the Plains?) when they're about 1ft high. I saw the 2ft tank in the LFS COMPLETELY FILLED with this plant in a matter of months.

I am currently having only hairgrass (lazy) with aggressive bio-trimming regime using Yamatoes and Zebra snails, so I cannot offer my own experience. Let us know how you fare against the tornado plants

Yes, I do, where I live is part of "Tornado Alley"

Will do, Heng Wah! I will be getting this plant (among others) tomorrow. I
will see if they experience a "bonsai effect" without CO2 and strong lighting
in my newly set up Walstad tank. Thanks to Freddy and you for the info!
