Gan, the second pic look somewhat like luxuriant java moss.
I was at C328 just now and saw a few packets of very beautiful moss.
The moss looks like Taiwan Moss but with with bigger leaves and larger and longer fronds. The owner said it is call 'san jiao' (Triangular) moss and is from from a local supplier ?! From the frond shape and branching pattern, it looks like a Taxiphyllum sp to me.
There were about 8 packs of this moss in the shop and each is going for just S$5 ! I bought 2 packs and saw another customer bought 2 packs. You should head down the C328 first thing in morning if you are interested in this moss.

why I don't do garden hybrids and aquarium strains: natural species is a history of Nature, while hybrids are just the whims of Man.

That is one of the reason I think it could be a Taxiphyllum sp.Originally Posted by hwchoy

Nice fronds for a pretty good price.

Hi Gan!
The mosses namely Xmas moss and Java moss in my tank were from the "san jiao" moss purchased from C328 more than a year ago. My guess is they should not be much different from the ones you saw in my tank. They were selling the "san jiao" at $5 and the Java moss at $2 per packet. My Java moss was a stowaway in the Xmas moss packet and they look similar to the second pic.
Thanks for the tip from you the other time, I can see more moss leaves after removing the SAEs.
Cheers!

Most LFS call any moss with triangular fronds 'san jiao'* moss so I would take their word with a pinch of saltBut I am very sure this moss is not Java Moss. The branches are much closer and the individual leaves pack much closer than Java Moss. The closest match is probably Taiwan Moss. If it is indeed Taiwan Moss then $5 a pack is a steal ! If not, we probably have a new moss here !
Yandy,
Did you happen to sell any Taiwan Moss to C328* ?

* san jiao means triangle in Chinese
* C328 is a very popular LFS in Singapore located at Block 328, Clement Ave 2.
I've seen the moss myself and frankly speaking its quite nice with triangular fronds. Didn't get any myself just now. Decided to give it a pass. Some of fronds had already turned brown when I was there.

Although I haven't been to C328 for a while, I can confirm
from Gan's pictures, that it's the Taiwan Moss. In the old
days before the name Christmas and Erect became more
popular, mosses imported from Taiwan were known either
as Taiwan Moss or Triangular Moss. These 2 names were
given to all mosses that came from Taiwan.
Here's a pic of my Taiwan Moss.
I'm not surprised that it's sold so cheaply now. Aquatic plants
can cost a bomb when they are first introduced to the market
but as hobbyists get to propagate them, the prices will naturally
fall.

Gosh, in that case I really gave up on a chance on getting this moss in my tanks. Planning to re-decorate my branching driftwoods with an assortment of mosses, ferns and anubias![]()
