I really enjoyed this thread. And after reading the Peat Page by Niels Jensen which Jianyang linked (thanks! ), I am tempted to add peat to my substrate! It sounds like an interesting experiment.

I just moved and I haven't set up my 55-gallon yet. So I have an opportunity to re-create the substrate when I do. I was planning on just using gravel mixed with Laterite.

Does anyone have an opinion or experience with peat in their substrate?
