Now I've read several posts from fellow forumers here regarding this species and I can clearly recall those from Wright in which he suspects that the Ughelli population seems to have been arnoldi crossed with Fundulosoma thierryi. Now whether this is true or not I'm not sure but the variability of this population is really boggling. I've seen some of the "orange" males of this population for sale locally at a major LFS and it is quite possible that the suppliers have females.

A question for the general viewing public, has anyone seen Bill Shenefelt's ARN "Calabar" in real life? This particular population caught my eye and this is one Fp. I'd like to have someday. Seems only available to AKA and CKA (Canada) members now. Any information would be kindly appreciated.

I don't know about any F. thierryi hybridization but I can tell you that it occurs east from Mali into the Niger river drainage and it is not impossible for females to of got mixed in with the lot. However, I believe a cryptic species and population mixing are more the blame for infertility. That and maybe the peat isn't right for proper incubation. I do know there are people still breeding this strain of ARN and the fish in the shop are testament to this.

    Cheerio

By the way, got my first thierryi hatchling today in 6 years! They are so gosh-darn pretty!
