    Mike,

That is definitely a beautiful tank and room!

    Wright,
I hadn't realized this was something you meant for multiple tanks -- would some type of overhead lighting system work better? (although I suppose less aesthetic)?

Deborah, Wright was talking about 2 different things: his hood project and
what he's going to be doing to his fishroom. The hood project is for stand-
alone tanks out in the living room, study, wherever you want something
nice, sculpted, where aesthetics is prime. Having a tank that has
chilling capability, housing diapterons in a planted setting on your desk in
the study (for instance) would be something to behold!

    No Deborah,

The wacko killinut design is for a single tank, but to be manufactured in very limited quantities, as there are a limited number of Betta, Rainbow, or Killifish fanatics who would want one, IMO.

The casual aquarist would be wasting his money on one, when he can buy an Eclipse o/e that would work for "normal" tropical fish for about US$90 for a 6G system or $150 for a 12G tank system. [They are, BTW, wonderful and I'm a great admirer of Marineland for bringing them to the market.]

The "Kludge" is something I would have in the house, so I could keep an eye on them when breeding my Chocolate Guoramis or Peacock Gudgeons. My fishroom is the simple design I described above, with flow-through water and (probably) T-8 fluorescent lights. Only polycarbonate lids to keep jumpers in the tanks.

Since my water comes out of the pipes at 13C, I don't plan to need a chiller out there. I just hope I can control flow down so a 300W heater will keep the tanks at a reasonable temperature. I may do two inlet sumps, so I can have a cool side (20C) and a warm side (28C). IDK.

Has anyone checked their pipe temps in SG to see if the chilling could be done with such a flow-through system? A doser for dechloraminator would be mandatory, and water may be just too expensive to use that way. My local well has no chlorine or chloramine,

Here, all our waste water goes back into the aquifer and on to Los Angeles. Considering what jerks they have been about stealing water, over the years, there is a whole lot of satisfaction whenever we flush the toilet.

Anyway, there is no meter on my water and I'm free to use as much as I want. The waste isn't really wasted, so I'm persuaded to go that way for most of my small tanks.
