Recently, my lotus bloom with a flower of diameter about 8cm. I was shock to find out that it only bloom in the middle of the night and will close again in the morning. Anyone here who have experience on this plant would like to comment on this.

    Au,

my lotus - which looks the same like yours - also did the same thing. It was sending out a few flowers, one after another, but strangely it did not bloom during the day.

Only approaching midnight, it started to open out its petals. It closes the petals again the next morning. Very strange indeed.

Just think: some flowers emit pheromones that attract beetles, flies and moths from miles away...... wonder what sort of bugs do the Nymphaea attract to your house???

No need to worry, some species of Nymphaea are night bloomers. I believe that they are fragranted as well.
