I noticed white spots appearing on the surface of many of my fishes in my planted tank and bought a anti white spot plus medication for them. Do I need to remove the fishes from my tank and then medicate them or do the treatment direct into the tank. Was wondering whether the medication will be bad for my plants.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

When you are able to see the spots on the body like the picture above, it is too late to remove them. The water will have all the free swimming larvaes and eggs. You will need to treat the entire tank.

Most medication, even stated as harmless to plants, will have some effect on the plants. Dose the medication 1/2 dose if you are worry and do water change 1 or 2 days later.

Usually, i will just switch off the fan and let the water temperature go up to about 30 - 32C and add a little salt to the water. Water change every 2 days. The fish takes about 2wks to fully recover. Bear in mind that even the fish do not have the white spot, continue treatment for at least a week.

I've been searching AQ for information on curing Ich using salt. However, what kind of salt is used? Is it normal table salt or aquarium salt?

Normal salt should be used carefully as they may burn sensitive plants. Raising water temperature shortens the ich life cyles. I switch on the UV sterilizer for a week when an outbreak occurs.
