Thought I'd start off this thread on the common yet always underrated species - Aphyosemion australe. Most people usually recommend this species as beginner species but as it turns out, australes are very nippy fellas and males with damaged lyretail streamers always get ragged looking regrowths. Again this species breeds readily but is not always easy for everyone. Here's a look at some pictures I took recently and from earlier attempts at photography.

    The Good Ol' Chocolate Australe

Here's two pictures I took ages ago at timebomb's aka Mr Loh's place.

Adult male from Ronnie's line. Fish belongs to Ronnie Lee.

Spawning pair in the photo tank. Pair belongs to Ronnie Lee.

I even took a video of them doing "IT" the whole time in the photo tank.

For those intending to obtain these australes, I spotted several pairs of the EBT at Eco-culture and also 2 pairs of the BSWG. The BSWG is much more colourful whereas the EBT are dark in colour. So if any of you want to get your hands on some good sized pairs of this fish, go down to Eco-culture.

Just as a tip to those who are looking for australes.

EBT and BSWG here refer to fishes I took photos of and shown above.

EBT as a code refers to Wolfgang Eberl, Thomas Blum & Peter Tirbak, who collected this population of australe and other species during the month of March 1996, in Gabon.

EBT 96/27 was collected at Cap Estérias. Location of collection is the same as the code LEC 93/26.

BSWG as a code refers to Thomas Blum, P.Sewer, H.Weder and R.Gluggenbuehl, who collected this population of australe and other species during the months of July/August 1997, in Southern Gabon.

BSWG 97/24 was collected at Port Gentil, a port city on the Atlantic coast of Gabon.

You can refer to a list of collection code HERE.

As what Jianyang has stated, EBT and BSWG stands for the acronym of the collectors' last name. The reference above is a good list for African non-annuals if you want to check out if the collection code for the fish you have is valid.
