    Hi,

I have tried 3 "branded" peat moss or peat that are intended for aquatic use and found that they contain high level of ammonia.

What I did was take a handful of the peat, put them into a container and microwave it for 2 minute, and test it with Ammonia test kit, they solution turn to the darkest color, which mean very high concentration of ammonia.

I wander I can find a brand of peat or peat moss that is ammonia free.

Anyone can suggest a brand? I need it to lower PH of water.

    Hi what's your name "dtzy",

Besides ketapang leaves, both Sera and Aquarium Münster has peat pellets that will drive pH down to 4·5, with pretty tannic water as well.

Not sure if these 2 will have high ammonia but if you have tested for it, what results did you get (with the 3 'branded' peat moss) between the 1st and subsequent wettings?
I'm back & keeping 'em fingers wet,
