Two more new additions to my SAAs. Following pictures were taken in plastic tanks so the quality isn't there. I hope they're good enough to be representative pictures of the species.

Young pair of my Simp. notatus "Alvorada do Norte". These are the late-stage belly sliding fellas that I mentioned in an earlier thread. I was lucky to end up with a pair.

Found some eggs in their tank so I'll be scattering the peat all over the tank bottom. Hopefully they'll reward me with some good eggs.

Another young pair of Simp. hellneri. Out of 5 surviving fry, I was blessed with two healthy pairs and one bent-spine male.

I'm just gonna have to try some SAAs this spring. Considering these were
taken thru plastic--great pics, Jian Yang!

Thanks Bill. They are a wonderful lot and are worth some time and effort in raising them. The colours that they reward you with, together with some pretty flamboyant courtship dances by the males, makes it worthwhile to own them.

Plastic is much clearer than glass. The clarity index goes from glass, to PVC, polycarbonate to Acrylic. This is, of course, as long as the plastic isn't scratched to hell...

    They are good pictures though.

If you are interested in obtaining some SAA's I suggest you join the SAA study group. Go have a look here.

    I heartily suggest Simp. whitei.

    Regards

Bill, the young hellneri males have grown up quite quickly into rather beautiful fishes. They don't seem to show much interest in spawning though. Anyway, here's a picture just taken a few minutes ago of the two males.

Hi Shae, would it be possible for you to photograph and post the pictures of the fish that you have?

That is a very nice fish! Unfortunatly this morning when i went out to look at my hellneri they had died, When i got the shippment from down south these killies were the only ones that looked really banged up. I thought with good food and water conditions i might be able to turn them round but they must have already been past the helping stage. Its a shame becuase i dont know if We have any others down here??

    Update on the two species.

    Simpsonichthys hellneri

    Simpsonichthys notatus "Alvorada do Norte"

The hellneri may have come from a coded pair but until I get further evidence the tag remains empty for now.

Both pairs are beginning to breed. Hopefully I get enough to work with and also to spread around.

Steffen, just for you I'm digging up this old thread to illustrate the beauty of Simp. hellneri.

It is a pity that both the hellneri and notatus are no longer popular in some parts of the world. They are a charming species and well worth the effort to keep and raise.
