Kwek Leong pass me some Stringy Moss (Leptodictyon riparium) some time back and it has since grown to fill a small glass vase in my office. I thought I should pass some around so others can enjoy it and also help to propagate this lovely moss.

The easiest way to grow it is to keep it in a glass vase in a cold environment (below 26C, air-con room or office) as shown in the link above. No fertiliser or maintenance required !

I have 5 small portions to give away to any moss lovers who commits to propagate this moss and share it with others and not to profit from it.

Does this plant always grow vertically up like in the vase? If it was put in a deep fishtank on wood would it grow directly up forming neat stems almost like a grass? It would certainly make for a very interesting thicket.

    What are its light requirments?

Gan, I would be willing to try out this moss. Hopefully my current setup at home is good enough for it.

Does it need a slight current to enhance the growth of this moss?

If you would like to see how the moss travels, I would like to try and grow out some of the moss here in the states.

    Tony,
Yes, it grows vertically provided there is no current. This plant can get pretty messy when grown in a tank with strong current because they can get tangled and end up as a messy clump That is whay I grow it in a galss vase. It is probably a good moss for low maintenance tank with shrimps.

This plant has low light requirement. I grow it with light from the office ceiling lamp.

    JianYang,
I have reserved some for you. Slight current will probably enhance the growth. No harm giving it a try

    Ryan,
This moss actually came from the states and according to Daemonfly (Mike) it is common a moss there. I can send some to you if you like.

    Hi Gan,

No problem, hopefully by that time, the takers of your stringy moss this time round would also have grown enough moss to spare fellow moss lovers!

    Until then. Thanks!

    cheers,

    Stringy Moss

For those that's going to try the stringy moss, please take note.

Please be very careful in handling the moss so that it does not come into contact with any BBA. Once BBA is being passed and take hold onto the 'string', that's pretty much the end of the moss.

And the worst part is that the Stringy Moss could not take bleach treatment as well as java moss. So be real careful.
