I hatched some nigripinnis eggs a couple of weeks ago and I noticed now that there are several belly sliders. I have read many theories about their cause but one of the most recurrent is the lack of oxigen in the water or the difficult for them to fill their swim bladder with air (oxigen). I am not sure if it is coincidence or not, but the fry that can swim without any problem has a small "bubble" between their head and the dorsal fin, while the belly sliders don't have it (at least that is my impression). What do you think, is that the main reason they are not able to swim?

    Regards,

    Tony

I believe that small bubble is the swim bladder. If you are correct on that, then yes, that would be the difference.

No idea what causes it as their are tons of opinions out there. with the first hatch of nigripinnis I did maybe half of what I got were bellysliders.

Joseph, thanks for your reply, I have more than 50% belly sliders and I am not sure the reason, one of my theories is that they hatched after the right incubation (I was out of town and very busy so did not have time to care for fry) or the lack of oxygen. In any case about 5 or 6 look OK and hopefully I will get a couple.
