    Hi all,

A month ago, i harvested some eggs from my Fundulopanchax gardneri "Nsukka" and incubated them into a small plastic container filled with
water from the tank with java moss and a malayan shrimp (thanks to a tip picked up in a link here)

It has been 1 month and the 'eye-ups' are very obvious with the bodies
of the fries clearly formed with no bad eggs with fungus. No fry has hatched yet and the eggs are counted everyday with no missing numbers

Is this a common duration of waiting time?

How long does it take for the eggs to be hatched?

Pardon me for asking such a silly question as usually I do not harvest eggs and let nature take its course. This is the 1st time Im doing it and hope it will be a success

    Thanks
    Rob

1 month is pretty common for the GARs I think but they should be hatching by now.

Water incubation can range from a mere 1 week to almost 2 months? or more I think, depending on the species.

If the fry are not hatching soon, 'force-hatching' should be applied. They should hatch out once the irises of the eyes are fully formed. Going by the description you gave the eggs should be hatching in the next few days to come. Wait a while more before attempting to 'force-hatch' them.

Do a large water change and see if that helps any. Often a simple water change will stimulate the fry to hatch out.

    up to 2 months!

Been harvesting the eggs and placing them on damp coir for a week or two before wetting them. Got about 16 frys (1month) the first time and more then 20 (2weeks) the second time. I remembered I collected more eggs then that less those fungused, there should be more frys. Guess the later frys have been making a tasty snack for their elder siblings.

In fact I just removed the coir this evening from the first batch, was about to clean it and microwave it to recycle the coir. Guess I better keep it for a while longer. LOL

    Regards,
