No! No! No! the picture is too small!!! How can you tease us like this?! That is such a super fish and you give us such a tiny picture.

That is a cool fish Au, and one I've been after for a long long time. The last time I tried however I wound up with Glugea in my fish room (be careful from whom you get your peat from) so I'm abit put off... But should space miraculously appear on my fishtank stand I will try again.

Hi Guys, picture edited to a bigger copy.

    Tyrone,

The fish is clean from disease as I got them from 2 senior breeder from AKA. I'm now working on the 2nd generation. Should start to collect eggs in a month's time.

Eric, you should see the male in the flesh. It is a stunning specimen of a fish.

Thanks to Au I have the male in the picture swimming in my tank with a female I raised from a separate batch of eggs I received from a different source.

I lost the initial trio to some stress while I was bringing them home. This male came home with me safe and sound.

The photo was shot when the male was beginning to settle into the new tank.

The pair are quite matured so I hope I get some good eggs from these fellas. Been seeing them going in and out of the spawning bowl these past few days.

I keep the pair with a group of Pseudomugil gertrudae as tankmates. The pair isn't so shy with the presence of the gregarious Gertrude's Forktails.

Yes Tyrone they are a super fish but don't miraculously remove one species from your rack just to make way for it.

    cool

These guys are near the top of my wish list. I'd like to see a pair in person though before mail-ordering some so that I can judge how big they are. Got a photo with something for scale?

Kind of remind me of a woma http://www.kingsnake.com/donpatterson/woma.html

Hi Sparky, the male for this species maxes out around 4.5 to 5cm in total length depending on how well he's fed. The female on the other hand maxes out at around 3.5 to 4cm.

Double disaster for me last night. After finding my Riv. agilae female dead, I was cleaning up the flammeus tank searching for the missing female and I found her rotting carcass behind the sponge filter.

The good part is that I have 5 young fry growing up but the problem is whether the females will be mature enough to lay eggs in a month's time.

Edit: Miscounted, should have been 6 fry instead of 5.

Good luck with that, Jianyang. It always sucks when you lose half a breeder pair Post a pic of the 5 when they reach teenager size, I'd
like to see their coloring. Beautiful fish.

It looks like an all-girl bunch. I took out the largest bugger to join the old male in its tank. Hopefully it turns out to be a female because its already 2.5 cm in length and not showing any colour. The remaining 5 (I forgot I had 6 instead of 5 left) are of varying sizes with 3 at 1.8 cm, 1 at 1.5 cm and one small straggler at 1.2 cm.

Finnage wise it seems to show the male's characteristics but I hope its a female. The problem with this species as per communication with a fellow breeder is that the females mature very late (± 6 months ? ).

This batch was collected from the hatching tray on the 4th of March 05. Come Friday they will be 6 weeks old. On the 4th of September they will be already 6 months old. I hope they don't take that long to mature.. [-o<

These 6 fellas are from eggs sent from a friend in Brazil. From the same collection made at Nova Roma in 2003 by Andre Carletto.

The last peat collected rendered zero eggs. The old female was reluctant to spawn in the bowl I gave them.

Here's an obituary pic of that old flammeus chick.

    Hi Bill and all,

As requested, an image of the "teenagers" at 8 weeks of age.

Fish no. 3 is the young male that I was lucky enough to get from amongst the 6 surviving fry. The other 2 are females. 2 others are missing from the image because they were hiding.

That's a nice male you got there and you're lucky to have enough to
breed! Hope you show more pics as they develop.

Bill, I'll try my best but they're very shy. I hope they're mature already. Moving them to larger quarters since the old male isn't doing too good.
