As of 30/03/04, comments appreciated. I think the java fern on the left needs some thinning to make the valley more obvious, the tiger lily is still kinda of puny(made a msitake of trimming it too much

    Hi
Nice, although I find the tank too 'one-shade of green'.. gotta wait for your tiger lily to grow larger..
    what is your tank dimension?

By the way, on the right side, what is lurking below the driftwood?

Nice, I've always liked this tank of yours. But the water seems a little cloudy?

Somehow, I can't picture the red lotus there... in my minds eye, it just spoils the current layout. Perhaps you should grow some reddish plants behind the whole scape and trim them to follow the line of the valley (an Amano concept). In the foreground, perhaps some reddish/brownish crypts?

simply an amazing scaping. hwvr, would be great to have some red stem plants at the left hand corner or off centre to bring contrast to the overall green setup. agree with Vinz abt the red lotus at the front...

Thanks for all the comments! keep them coming...

Yes the water does look a bit cloudy, could be the diffused light, the water should be quite clear. Will be more careful about that the next time.

Think both you and leroyfong have a point there regarding the reds. I tried out the cryptocoryne beckettii "petchii" which have some red/brown (swiped some from the S.E. Asia tank ) , positioned between the stargrss and the red tiger, it does look better! I didn't remove the red tiger though, I think it's rooted quite deep. I got some red from a friend, gonna to position that at the back and see how that looks tonight

If you ever decide to remove the red lotus, here's a little trick. Uproot it enough for the roots to show... about an inch. Cut them off the plant, then pull each root up individually. Less of a mess this way, and less likely for the under-substrate to move too. Have a siphon primed and ready to vacuum up any clouds and unearthed basefert/etc.

Well done. Care to share how you achieve the layout on the right? Driftwood or some stuff underneath?

looks nice! The crypts could be thicker to match the dense vegetation on the right?

I change the foreground countless of time.. tenellus, glosso, APP, and now dwarf HG.. somehow I'm never happy with my foreground Yes I rip them out and replace with DHG

Tenellus gets too tall.. glosso refuse to grow as thick as I want them to be, APP have to keep trimming, and now I decided to try my hand on Dwarf HG, hopefully they will take care of themselves and I do not have to do any trimming

BTW I always think this layout should look good in a 3ft.. but no approval on permit leh

    hey feimiao,

what size tank is it? 2ft? how much lights and are you using fans?

I'm curious, how do you mix plants like moss and anubias and ferns together with the lotus and still keep it "flat" ?

    regard

Yes it's a 2ft, light is at 72watts and with the fan, temp is about 26ºC, I think that's helps with the java ferns and other plants, the red tiger lotus "trained" to grow low you do that by trimming off any upwards growing stalks.

if you notice I used tall growing stem plants to create shades for the anubias nanas, moss and java ferns, the red tiger will do okay with moderate lighting. I personally some water movement in the tanks also helps plant growth, especially for moss and java ferns

    turtlehead--
The light used are the normal 36Watts PL, I think they are about 6500K, I do not pay much attention to Ks nowadays

    Hope that answers your qns
