Are there eggs? Can you see them?
Eggs sent in peat can take longer than normal to hatch. The best is to put the peat and eggs in a shallow dish, do water changes and watch for fry.

Sometimes eggs die in transit during shipping. Deal with that aspect if someone ships you eggs in peat packets. You cannot foresee conditions like extra warm weather when the mailman delivers the package.
If all the peat does not produce any fry, lets just put it this way. Its your rotten luck to get a bad hatch rate. It happens to everyone sometime during their period in the hobby, especially among those who order eggs from overseas. A risk is always involved when getting eggs from overseas.
Fish.. Simply Irresistable
Back to Killies... slowly.
Spot-on Jianyang.
We pays our money and we takes our chances---as Mike Reid told me as after he popped 24 LIN eggs in the post to me. That time I won the gamble.
Killiefishsonny just recently sent eggs to S.Afr in peat. While as per ussual the AUS eggs faired very poorly all peat packets gave fry so just be patient with the peat you have. Do not discard it. It may take upto 6 weeks for the eggs to hatch!
Keep well
Hi All,
Sorry was a little busy with work and didn't read this forum for a few days. Bettawalk's name is Chee Mun. He is our el kapitan when it comes to sourcing fishes over here in KL. This batch of purchase is a joint venture of 5 people who are just starting out in Killies.
Hi Ron, I am basically having success with Aphyosemion australe, Epiplatys annulatus and Fundulopanchax gardneri though I am not getting any ANN frys for some time. Just put into water 5 type of nothos, they are hatching pretty well.![]()
6 weeks is a really long time for epiplaty and aphyosemion eggs to hatch and to find out there are no frysMaybe we should just figure how to get our eggs in water rather then peat.
Thanks for all the advise and supporting us in our infancy stage guys. Much appreciated.

The best is to have them shipped---un touched---on the mop they were spawned. Shipping in water can be totally disastrous.
Regards
Chee Mun, if I've not said this, then welcome to the forum. We're a friendly bunch here and it wouldn't hurt to update your profile to indicate location and name, ya?
Michael, I sometimes think killie-keepers take more chances than other hobbyists, in that what we paid for may jolly well be just a bag of non-viable eggs.
Egg shipments take a real beating from our tropical heat and frankly, peat packing never did me much good. I've gotten nothing from 60 SJO Niger Delta eggs and my wallet hurts!
If you insist on eggs shipped in water, perhaps you might want to consider my preferences for non-annual species, ie. eggs in advanced embryol development shipped in breather bags with a very light touch of acriflavin. Better if you can group-order to justify and share the costly express shipping. That, IMHO, is the best bet for egg survival in our climate.
For some species, it does take a long while to hatch after peat wetting. I almost gave up on Fundulopanchax fallax after 6 weeks and was about to throw out the useless pile until I detected some movement. The 3 little buggers have now grown into a reversed trio and I'll be conditioning them for spawning soon.
Bottom line is, don't give up on your peat so soon but I'll max out at 2 months. Sometimes, it's also worth the effort to maintain correspondence with your seller and update them accordingly, ie. if they don't mind keeping up with the added emails.
I'm back & keeping 'em fingers wet,

I think hatching and bringing up killies are like gambling or playing Toto. Just that your chance of winning is much higher. You pay your bid on whether you end up with nothing or pile of still dirty water or if you happen to win, some moving Jewel in the fish tank.
Chee Mun, I ever lost my bid to cheater and myself (as i over confident).
Who did you lost your bid to? At least you have Beira98 and a few notho species breeding successfully. While many of us still struggling with Beira98.
KeeHoe.
Hi,
Sory , i dont realy come to this forum much and came here rather late![]()
Soo far out of the whole batch the total fry hatch is
1 fry of Aphyosemion Christyi Kinshasa
1 fry of Fundulopanchax Ammeti
and 2 fry of Fundulopanchax Gardneri Gold
Just as i was reading your message, i ran to my aquarium to look at the eggs. There i saw 1 Fp. Ammeti fry at the botem of the floor. At least now i know theres life in the aquarium :P
I am not sure of the spelling sory , as i just copies it from the sellers e-mail![]()
Does this happen that offten.
