Hi,
All the fish I got from you guys...well not all... are doing fine.
The Clown Killies that I got from Ron, I packed into breathable bags, for some reason all the water leaked out of the bags( the bag had not burst), and the fish were barely wet when I reached home, there was no water in the bag!!!.... still true to what Ron said of them ( "they can take a lot of abuse"), about 8 survived a prolonged period ( I have no way of knowing how long) of just remaining moist, started swimming around immediately and are doing well.
KL's Taiwan Moss went up as my attempt at a Moss wall.
Azmi's Bettas are all doing well.
Thanks a bunch guys!

This always bothers me about breather bags. If they leak, they must be carried in such a way that the leak continues. The stress of altitude in aircraft, or an insufficiently knotted top can get them to their destination without the safety puddle that is surrounding normal fish bags carried in a larger trash or garbage bag. Those don't keep leaking until nearly dry if they are sitting in a puddle.Originally Posted by Madan
If a breather bag sits in a puddle, the fish quickly suffocate. That's why they need to be in paper bags or surrounded by plastic "popcorn" o/e.
Has anyone invented a solution to this impasse?

Wright, I don't think there's a new invention yet. I was having a feel of the breather bags at Ron's place and they seem to be made of a rather thin material. If the bags were not packaged properly they would have probably leaked easily.
The bags should have been water-tight but probably a leak sprang when one of the bags wasn't tied properly or had suffered a tiny puncture during transit. Probably the next time you receive anything in a breather bag they should be wrapped with some insulating material and packed in a styro box like what Ronnie previously did in a test run to the UK to Tom.
Madan, did you check for any damage on the breather bags? You're lucky that several of the clowns survived the shipment.
Anyway, I wasn't able to meet up with you the last time at Ron's place. Hopefully I'll see you during the upcoming Aquarama.![]()

Madan, it's been my pleasure meeting up with you again and if the killie-bug bites, let me know![]()
As for the leaky breather bags, Wright and Jian Yang already quoted the possiblilities, so I'm just as puzzled. [heh, I'm just glad those bags weren't from me]
I don't remember how many Pseudepiplatys annulatus I gave you but were all the ANNs packed into one breather bag? Were the Bettas also in breathers or plastic bag with air?
I'm back & keeping 'em fingers wet,

Hello Ronnie,
All the clown killies, about a Baker's dozen of them were in one breather bag. I had 2 breather bags with Anastomus ternetzi (one each to a bag), and one bag of Brachygobius doriae. The rest of the fish were individually packed in 3 inch dia plastic bags. All these bags were packed into the transparent Acrylic critter containers you use for killies.
So nothing sharp got to the bags. The breather bags had one spot each which was kinda thinned down due to stretching, it looked like something that happens when you take any normal plastic bag and pinch it between your fingers and pull hard.
8 of the P. annulattus, were barely wet (all the water had leaked out), but survived ( being well fed has it's advantages), so did 4 of the 5 gobies, the ternetzi did not make it.
The Bettas in the conventional bags did fine.

Hi Madan, probably the breathers were stretched a little too much during the packing process. The use of the plastic critter keeper tank as a holding item was a good move though. Kept everything securely in one spot.![]()

Hi Guys,
I suggest you use a rubber band to tie it rather to just make a knot with the breather bags. Then trim off the excess. I've use this method of sending eggs and proven problem free.
