it's hard to believe it's a freshwater shrimp... looks more like those marine cleaner shrimps.... the main page of the website hazards that it's a Caridinia species (the rostrum seems uncharacteristically long for the genus though), and that the red animals are female and the black are male. The size of 1.2 - 1.5 cm is pretty small though.

It resemble more to the marine shrimps than freshwater.

I've never seen this in any of the Indonesian listing from the farms I in contact.

But I do know most of the Crystal Red Shrimps in Singapore are breed in Indonesia by a welknown farm who export them to Singapore.

This should be a marine shrimp or a brackish water shrimp. Probably more close to the marine shrimps of the genus Lysmata, which are commonly known as cleaner shrimps in the marine hobby.

    :)

Yep. I agree with you... but, it's so hard to believe that they made this mistake.
(Maybe..., as stormhawk pointed, these little creatures belong to brackish or Salt water... )

By the way, who is Andreas Hartl ?

He's probably a photographer for the website or the supplier who brought in the animals. I've heard of his name before but cannot recall where I saw it being mentioned.

I asked Cai YX, see what he says.

Then this will be a hot new shrimp for the trade.

Did Cai YX mention which particular species this is?

There is 'need to have - need to have - need to have' discussion going on, on a dutch board also. They are trying to contact this german wholesaler on whose site you found the picture. Would be a cool shrimp, it looks so perfect! Like a carefully crafted and coloured shrimp statue.
I just hope it will be easy to breed!

    Anyone got more information?

Interesting, the shrimp is found somewhere in this map. Anyone going there for tour? Maybe can ask the local if they have come across such shrimps.

So is it definite that shrimp is a freshwater shrimp? If it is, that type of shrimp will cost a fortune! Hopefully this shrimp is abundant in nature and easy to breed.

I recall reading that Sulawesi's lakes harbour many endemic species (both fish and inverts), including unique medakas, halfbeaks and silversides. Unfortunately, tilapia have already been introduced...

yes, definitely. don't you believe Cai YX?

believe most of these shrimps are in the national parks. even scientists collecting dead specimens are strictly regulated.

It's not that I don't believe in Cai YX, it's because the shrimp look so beautiful that it seems like it is one of those beautiful saltwater shrimps.

It's great and a relief that people collecting these shrimps are strictly regulated, if not they probably will collect this shrimps until they are extinct from their habitat.

Did anyone ever saw a real live one, instead of just picture(s)?
