    Hi all,

Currently I have 5 crystal reds and many many cherries shrimps in my 1.5ft shrimp/nursery tank (together with 15 small frys). I wonder will the crystal reds and cheery shrimps cross breed? I hope not. Because I saw one of the crystal reds with some eggs.

    Please advice.

    Thanks!

    Hi,
the CR shrimps will not cross-breed with cherries. They will "cross-breed" with diamond shrimps because both are the same spcies, CR are just a colorful mutation of the diamond shrimp. CR can also cross-breed with tiger shrimps and fertile ugly hybrids will be the result. Please do not keep them together or be very careful. I never had hybrids of CR and tiger but a friend of mine got lots of hybrids of tiger and diamond and only the hybrids survid int he end, so it seems to depend on the strains. But I wouldn't try it because these hybrids are ugly pale brown with little white and some black spots, no real stipes.

    best regards

    Robert
