Stormhawk: The "gold" females should lack stripes correct?
I've seen "tiger" lineatus but they weren't very nice looking-fain't black stripes and mainly gold with only a slightly amt of red.
Yes that's correct. Both sexes of the gold form should be lacking in any form of stripes on the body. A uniform gold colour with very little red. There are some intermediate forms that have a slight amount of red to quite an amount of red. Probably crosses between the gold form and the red form, with the gold being a dominant gene.
The tiger isn't very attractive actually but its the closest you get to the real wild type.

Hi Bill, the first pic I posted from killis.drpez.com is that of a wild female "tiger" lineatus or in short, the wild form of the lineatus.

To get fresh new stocks of the wild fish, it is best to try and get our Indian forum members on board. They are best located to catch and breed these critters.
I believe Tony Pinto wrote an article about collecting fishes in India recently and was published in a very recent TFH issue.
In it, fellow forum members like Madan were mentioned as having helped Tony during his collection trip in India. I believe Madan may still have the wild lineatus at home. Probably someone here can ask if he's bringing any to Singapore during the period that Aquarama is taking place here in Singapore from 26 to 29 May this year.

Hi Bill,
I'm not sure if Madan's bringing anything over. I believe KL would be the best person to ask since he's usually in contact with Madan. It may or may not be auctioned off during our planned gathering cum auction, in short our own Killi Show.
As for the Aquarama, yes it is a convention meant for aquarists in the region. Held bi-annually. Here's the website. There'll be several exhibitors from all over the place. Of interest to me this year would be those from Peru.
The Sri Lankan exhibitors may have Aplocheilus in stock when they do come over but that is pure speculation.

I'll write to Madan and ask him if he has access to the fish. If he does, I'm sure Madan wouldn't mind hand-carrying them with him when he comes for Aquarama next month. If Madan brings the fish, I will certainly keep a few pairs for you.

Better thank Alf for his superb photography.
I was back the shop just now. Only 4 fishes and all were females. 3 are very young fish while the largest female is about 6cm long. The boys who collected these said the fish started jumping once they sensed their presence in the area.

Bill, regarding the LIN, let me know if you're still interested in getting them. I was down at the shop today and the shop owner said the kids who caught the female lineatus had a number for sale. They were having difficulty catching the males. These are almost like Alf's fish in the pictures.

When you're in Thailand I bet you'll find plenty of them at the Jatujak Sunday market. There's also a strain of Aplocheilus panchax found in Thailand that is of a beautiful colouration. I saw some being offered on AB sometime back by Thai suppliers.
In Singapore, our native A. panchax is of a more subdued colouration.

JY, can you help me get the kids to collect male LIN (don't have a pix) plus local panchax? how much they asking for? If cheap cheap then I would a whole lot for my pond. maybe 30-50 pieces if less than $1 each. need them to gobble up the insects.

I've already informed the shop owner to let me know when the kids come over next. They've not caught the local panchax as far as I know. However I can try. I did see wild panchax in the shop once.
