    Kho,

When Tyrone mentioned "elaborate", I think what he meant was he wanted to know more about the lazy-man method you used to collect the eggs. Please tell......I like to know too.

It's great that the newcomers to the Killifish hobby are breeding their fish successfully but it would be even greater if they share what they know.

I'm disappointed that after enquiries from 3 persons, Kho has refused to answer our questions on his lazy man method. Even if he does not know how to describe the method, the least he should do is show us some photographs. Friendship is reciprocal, as what Ronnie used to say. Where would killies.com be if people like Tyrone and Wright hadn't been here all the time, answering newbie questions?

Kho, even if it's a "I don't know" or a "I don't like to share", a reply would be much appreciated.

By the way, Kenny, thanks for keeping the bag of eggs for me. The tank you're supposed to collect is somewhere in my bedroom, in my wardrobe cupboard, waiting for your collection.

    They're sexable at that age?

By the way, do explain your "lazy man" method on collecting the eggs. I believe more than one person would want to know.

That came with large danger and responsibility cause the danger of crossing the strain is 100% sure for certain age of people, be it young or old.

BTW, if in exchange of diapteron fish, I would send you a link and motion of how it can be done.

    Jian Yang,

Looks like the melanospilus is another fast growing species. I've been to Kho's house, and at 4 days old, they are coming to about 8-10mm long.

    Cheers,

Use it at you own risk cause the other day when I share the "lazyman" method with someone, he pointed up the high chance of cross species if the materials are to re-cycle. I am very concern about this.

    Hi Kho,

Anything can cause if one is not cautious. I usually reuse the peat for the same species. But I'll perfer to consolidate all the peat and then boil the peat to make sure all the leftover eggs are killed. You can also heatup the peat in a microwave oven.

If the peat was recycled then there would be a danger of course.

Microwaving the peat and other items would be a good way of sterilisation as Au has mentioned.

    aaahhh.... I understand now.

Kwek Leong, it is my reasoning why Kho is reluctant to elaborate further on the 'lazyman' technique, is the risk of eggs finding their way to other media but then again, nothing is foolproof.

Kho, it's not just with peat (which I microwave at HIGH for 10mins) but also with other equipment used, such as sieve, nets, etc. Proper care and cleaning after use, together with the right attitudes, will avoid unnecessary problems.

Folks, you have heard of the "Hamburger filter", but have you seen "Tissue Patties"?? Kenny is supposed to do a writeup on alternative method of drying peat for incubation but I think he's down with writers' block. [Kenny, about time eh? You already have the images on CDR, so whatcha waiting for?]

Yes I was boggled the first time I saw that method too but that would be a new thread altogether.

Note: I have taken the liberty of removing some posts and apologise to those who have been affected by my decision. Off-topic discussions are now moved to a new thread here.

Could anyone please tell me more about the "lazyman's method" of egg collection/selection?
    Thank you!

Gan, although cheap, you'd be amazed by how effective it is in achieving the 'right' damp-factor for your annuals. These 'patties' are dried after use and is very economical. If you haven't tried it, you don't know what you're missing
