oh, and is it normal for this species to lie on the substrate and refuse to swim?

    Choy,
Handling the striatums is a tad tricky and probably needs cooler temps. Mine prefers to hang around the floating plants, make a dash during feeding time and hit the surface again.

See if you can cool down the tank further (drop in ice cubes perhaps?) and observe any changes.

BTW, compared to other Aphyosemions, striatum's growth rate is somewhat slow and color up late... but as your pics show, it's worth the wait.

Choy, its not normal behaviour for them to sulk at the tank bottom. They are a pretty sensitive fish to sudden changes in water temperature and chemistry. Very difficult species in my opinion. Oddly enough some associations say this is a species suited for the beginner.

The pictures show only a hint of their true potential. Give them some time and they will show their electrifying colours.

    Choy,

Yes, the striatum is one problematic fellow when come to water parameter. He sank to to the bottom, that means he's not very happy! I lost a few of them whenever I'm too harsh on water change. Good luck with the fish. It had yet to show it's full potential. Remember to put a cover over the tank .

The location Lambaréné is in Moyen-Ogooue province, Gabon.

Gan K.T.? I thought it should be Gan Q.Z.

By the way, its Moyen-Ogooue, not Moyen-Ogooué.

nah, he is old enough not to have to use pinyin

Moyen-Ogooué is used by various encyclopaedic references and also gabon websites. although some deviation but most uses either Ogoué or Ogooué, so.

On a second look, however, Moyen-Ogooué seem to be used on the French pages while Moyen-Ogooue seem to used on the English pages (on gabon sites), so perhaps I will revise it

For awhile I thought you got the wrong person.

Anyway, back to the Moyen-Ogooue thingy, yes you've got a point there. Since Gabon was a former French colony I think they'd use the é in the Ogooue.

However, I got my data from multimap.com so I suppose its better to spell it as Moyen-Ogooue.

well as is usual there are all kinds of liberal use of spanish and french names in an anglical setting. the river itself is sometimes spelled just Ogoue or Ogoué. Also apparently Ogawe is another accepted spelling, which is an anglicsed form of the native name, which clearly Ogooué itself would be a french version. Hence no one is strictly correct

Therefore I shall exercise my editorial right and adopt Moyen-Ogooue

Drooling........ Any more fishes left at the Bukit Merah bus stop? I will go there everyday to spot check once the hot weather cast is over.

Gan, Do you have any egg/ pair for trade? Saw 2 at 328 yesterday and they are so adorable that i decided to setup 1/3 of my 4 feed tank for them. They are still there if anyone interested.

At what age would these fish start colouring up? My EXO is very colourful at the size of 1 inch and they are growing fast.

Thanks Gan. I am getting one pair this weekend. Maybe let me try it out first before taking from you. What i definately need from you is lots of advise. I heard this particular strain have not been very cooperative in many hands. Except yours.

    Thanks.
