    apparently there are feral populations of A. lineatus in Singapore. Caught by little boys and brought to an LFS to trade.

    I didn't know females have the median extension to the caudal fin.


    why I don't do garden hybrids and aquarium strains: natural species is a history of Nature, while hybrids are just the whims of Man.

    Yes the females do have that extension too although not as extensive as the males.

    Bill, if you're reading this, this female was the one I spotted at the LFS some time ago. The wild type "tiger" lineatus.

    It comes as no surprise that feral/introduced populations of this species is present in Singapore as the aquarium trade produces thousands of this species for sale in export markets. There would have been a few escapes or deliberate releases thereby causing such a population to exist.

    My only wish is that this species will not outcompete the native Aplocheilus panchax.

    Jianyang, I'm very interested in these tiger lineatus. Even the females
    are showier than the ones I've kept in Maine. If you can get a pic of

    Hi Bill, sadly there are no males available. I'm still on the lookout for these wild-type "tiger" LIN. Will keep you updated.
