I just installed a ehiem 2224. But the flow rate seem to be very slow. What could be the likely reason for the slow flow rate? Is there anthing I should do. And also how could I add a skimmer to clear the dirt on the water surface?
    Thank you.

Erm, William, I'll try my best to explain the surface skimmer part.

    1) switch off your filter first
    2) attached the inlet pipe to the skimmer
    3) place the skimmer into the water until the clear plastic top starts to bob or float abit on the surface
    4) switch on your filter and adjust the rod of the skimmer until the plastic top (not the whole thing - just the holes/ slots) dips below the water's surface and you can see water flowing into the skimmer.

    So there.[:]

Check whether your 2224 is primed properly ( ie. no air is trapped in the filter).

    Hi Frd

Tilt the canister here and there. If there is air, you will definitely see it.

tilt it about and listen for buzzing noises when the air hits the impeller
do it until the sounds stop
the filter should be free of air

Yes, when I tilt the filer I could noise. After a few tilt there is no noise and the poor flow rate is caused by the bending outgoing tube which was blocked.Sad is that the bend is in the center of the tube. Dun think I can cut that part away...Looks like I have to get another tube. Does anyone noes how much the tube will cause.

You mean the soft rubber green hose? It's about $3 per metre.

to straighten the kink in the pipe, tie a chopstick at the kinked portion to straighten the pipe. after a while, the kink should go away.

OK, before I buy the hose, let me try the chopstick method to straightened the hose. Thank you for the advise.
