    Hi guys,
Is it a must or rather is it necessary to collect the eggs?I mean, the eggs should be able to hatch by themselves.

    Pls advise...

    thanks

    Yours sincerely,
    Jeff

I presume you are talking about plant spawners.
You usually get more fry if you collect the eggs and hatch them aside.
With some exceptions like Clown killie that has more sensitive eggs.
But would we call a natural setup sometimes give a good number of fry of more hardy species too.
Annual eggs you have to collect.

    Jeff,

leaving eggs with the parents would depend on the species itself and the setup of the tank.

What species are you currently interested in?

You could try leaving the eggs of the rivulus with the parents in a heavily planted tank.

For the Northos no choice but you have to collect the eggs as they are annuals. They spawn in peat or in the gravel if you don't have a peat bowl. Try to do a search on peat in the forum or you could refer to www.killies.com for the details.

    Hi zmfam,
I used to use a spawning mop for the rivulus but no result. I have just switched to peat in a essence brand glass type container for them...hahaha...

As for the northo, its in a small 2ft tank(planted) with a small bowl of peat moss...

    Pls advise...

    Thanks

    Yours sincerly,
    Storm,Jeff

    Jeff,

perhaps others can advise on the northos.

What is the exact species of rivulus are you having? Some rivulus are late spawners and some are not that prolific. Keep the spawning mop and add another one to the tank.

Err.. Zul its Notho not Northo.

I suppose the Rivulus that Jeff has must be the cylindraceus. I've not seen Rivulus being offered for sale locally for a long time.. except for that rectocaudatus and the other unidentified species which finally landed in your tanks.

The cylindraceus is by far the only Rivulus species that has been firmly established locally. I hope it'll get better over time for the Rivulus species. Am sourcing for sp. "Mahdia".. so wish me luck.

    Jeff,

The peat bowl is a good choice for spawning nothos. However, since they're very much ploughers and not divers, a deep layer of peat isn't that useful after all.

There's an article on breeding and collecting collecting Notho eggs on the main website. Written by KL himself, it would do you good to read up on those articles. I believe they'll give you the answers you require.

Hi All, I confess. Jeff is doing back up for my Riv. Tenuis and Notho Eggersi. I can see that the fishes are happier in his hand than mine. Planted tank with free meal (cherry shrimp) everywhere.

OK Jeff, if you pick one species from the June order. I will babysit for you untill they are big enough for transportation.

    hi guys,
the notho eggerisi eats a lot. I was feeding them with frozen tubifex worm and they pratically ate up the whole piece. the rivulus is a much bigger eater and faster eater than the northo...hahaha...

anyway, zmfam, i have done what you said and added the spawnin mop into the rivulus tank too.so there are peat moss and spawning mop for the rivulus while the northo only has the peat moss...hahaha...

    Thanks

    Yours sincerely,
    Storm,Jeff

    Hi Jeff,

If you are interested in getting the costai eggs personally, you should have stated your interest in the mass order thread earlier before I closed the order. The price was not stated as the breeder did not give me a price for the costai eggs.

A rough estimate would put them anywhere between 15 to 20 USD (25 to 35 SGD) per bag, going by approximate current exchange rates. I don't know if you think this is too expensive for you.
