    Hi Derek,

For beginner, I will suggest the following:

    1) Read up the forum rules inside the notice board so that you know you should end the post with your real name and tell us where do you live before we can advise you.

    2) Read up the old posts in the forum so that you will know that actually most of the killifishs will prefer colder water so heater is not necessary. In fact, in Singapore. the only fish that I know of that need heater is discus.

    3) Consolidate all your questions that you can't find in the forum into one post. Try to give more details in your questions and not just one sentence :
can i put a trio of killifish in a 2.5g tank with a cory? or go with 2 killifish with a cory?
    4) Repair your keyboard so you are able to capitalise your sentences.

    Regards,
    Ong Poh San

    Usually not.
Sometimes some species might even need a cooler.
And please don't get into a fight about the big letters....

    Cool-headed reply Erik, thanks.

Derek, like what Poh San said, its advisable to give several more details and yes you should have read the forum rules beforehand.

About the heater, it really depends on where you are living. If you live in a cold climate, then yes, a heater would be necessary during the winter season if your fishroom is unheated.

But if you come from a tropical to sub-tropical climate, you won't need them most of the time.

In the high desert, where I live, it can be over 100F in the afternoon, and plunge to the high 40s at night, I finally gave up and have heaters in every tank, but for a few temperate zone fishes like Austrolebias.

Besides the suggestions from Poh San, a good way to start with Killies would be to pick up a copy of the latest issue of Aqualog news from the fish shops. There's an article there written for beginners.

Unlike other hobby fishes, Killies are such a diverse group it's impossible for us to answer general questions. I've got the latest issue of the Beginners Guide from the AKA (American Killifish Association) with me and it says that Killies comprise something like more than 60 genus and 800 species. So unlike Bettas, Guppies or Apistos, we are not talking about just one genus of fish but many.

We don't want to be seen as unfriendly but anyone who comes in here must understand that we expect you to do some research first before asking your first question. We hope you will stay and one day become an experienced Killifish breeder but we won't spoonfeed anyone.
