    Dear all,
I've lost a few species due to neglect and other priorities, and would feel horrible if I lose the 'Funge' as well.

This line is, if my memory serves me correct, was from Karl Walter and my backup for Kwek Leong. Well, I've been doing just that for the past 3 years and I'm hoping that either Kwek Leong or additional members can return some peace of mind.

Whoever takes on the obligation of species maintenance won't be in it alone as I'll co-maintain them till they are sufficiently established locally. This will apply to all other killies I'm slowly releasing for the maintenance programme.

The 'Funge' may not be as eye-popping as the 'Mundemba CI03' population that Bill showed recently but nonetheless, it's still a subtle beauty. Definitely 'rare' by any measure, since one don't find them in local LFS.

Limited pairs are available, so followup on this thread only if you're truly keen and no, they are not for sale (the price you pay is the maintenance effort you put in... fair enough?).

Please retain the name and location if one is to further distribute the progeny as Chromaphyosemion bivittatum 'Funge' or as per current Killie Census 2005.

Those are very dull Funge. I think turf them and concentrate on the Mundemba CI03 strain. My Funge (that I got from the UK) were just as blue as those Mundemba fish. I think you lucked out with the blue colour (which is not inherrited by every fish) or Karl's strain is defective. Funge are normally very big and blue.

    Regards

    Tyrone,
Personally, I'd refrain from alleging that someone else's stock is 'defective' but BIVs can be tough to shoot, even in a photo tank. They tend to dart about and drop their colors in a jiffy.

I think my images are a poor representation of the species and if they aren't stressed out and frightened, they do look AOK.

Frankly, I'm crossing my fingers that Bill will get lucky with his 'Mundemba' so I can get me some too! [how's that for being brutally honest? ]

PS: By 'turfing', is that equivalent to the 'royal flush' (Finding Nemo?)

Err.. I can frankly attest to Ron's BIV as having a dusky colouration. I have witnessed their true colours and I must say they are beautiful in their own right. Of course they are nowhere near the beauty of the Mundemba but then again, that's another fish altogether.
    Fish.. Simply Irresistable
    Back to Killies... slowly.

By turfing I mean put them in a nice display tank to live out the rest of their days.

And the intensity of the blue does vary from fish to fish. I have seen Funge as bright and colourful as the Mundemba fish---and that was in the same brood as fish that looked all washed out.

If you like the Mundemba colour, select for that colour.

aahhh.... as in retirement! I had misunderstood it as culling by the big flush!

Tyrone, I'm not out of extra tanks for display but really need to minimize some setups and husbandry. Lost a few species already and don't intend to make that a thrend.

The Mundemba is on my list (TIA, Bill) and I have a feeling that my tanks won't remain empty for very long.

[Tyrone, I forgot to mention that your requested album was added to the Public Gallery here]

Zul, make room for Ijebu and Funge! You're gonna be busy!
