anyone ???![]()
Hi
Does anyone knows aprox. how long does it takes for moss to attach to drifwood without requiring any fishing line???
I have this little moss that because of its size was really hard to be attached with fishing line to the driftwood, so I just "sprinkled" it over the driftwood and placed it inside of a highly moisturized container, so that it wouldn't be completely submerged in water, which would make the moss float off the driftwood.
I really hope this works because I'm new at growing moss, and this is a bit of a test before getting the expensive one![]()

Hola Lety,
I'm not an expert with mosses but they can take anywhere from a few weeks to maybe a month to fully attach and spread along the driftwood. This depends very much on the conditions. If you grew them emersed before submerging the driftwood under water, they should grow alot faster if you kept them in a moist environment with enough light and heat. A little liquid fertiliser sprayed on the moss during this emersed growth stage does help alot in the growth of the moss.
If you find fishing line to be difficult to handle, try using cotton sewing thread. I use black thread and its much much easier to use. If you do use fishing line, its best to use the finer sizes. Those are much easier to tie around the driftwood.![]()

thanks, unfortunately I can't use any thread since there are many tiny pieces of this moss of like 3mm, really small as you can see. Would it be best to wait until they grow more in like... a floating enviroment, instead of the driftwood?![]()

In that case just leave the whole piece of driftwood in that container you mentioned. Just remember to spray some liquid fertiliser meant for aquatic plants onto the moss. It helps to keep them going. Always ensure that that container has sufficient moisture and enough light so that the mosses can grow properly.
They seem to like conditions with shaded light and alot of moisture, a little like a shaded version of a green house.

Lety,
Not all mosses grip to driftwood. Some won't. It's difficult to answer your question because we don't know what moss you're growing and the conditions of its growth. Obviously, the better the conditions, the faster moss grows.

yea, I wish I had a digital camera right now but its broken, I have no idea what type of moss this is btw, hopefully it will work.
I will get some Java Moss later anyway, in about a month or so.![]()
