    Hi,

Go to my gallery page for some feeble attempts to show the moss I collected last Friday. For something not moving, it sure was hard to get it right.

It was collected at somewhere around an elevation of 9000-10,000 ft. from a water-splashed rock. It's from Rock Creek, just below Rock Creek Lake in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. I would have taken less, but the whole thing came off in my hand when I tried to lift a little. It sat in a plastic bag in my cooler for a few days until I got around to dunking it. The sudden change from emersed to immersed may be what caused the white tips on all branches. Sitting in the dark could be involved, though.

When all are tired of it, I'll replace with some flower pics I took on that hike.

Wright, if your macro was on you need extra lighting if the flash was turned off and a very steady hand..

I think your hand shook a little so the camera went off kilter and the pic turned out blurry. Thats what happens to me sometimes so I know how it feels.

On your mosses, I'm not sure what they are. I won't even try to identify them but it seems you brought home an assortment of other plants along with the mosses. The white tips forming are a nice feature. You could just call it white-tip moss if it starts growing underwater.
    Fish.. Simply Irresistable

I learned a good one, yesterday. [Hey farang, you listening?]

Image-Stabilized lenses cannot be mixed with macro or close-up lenses without driving the stabilizer servo nutso! Reading the manual a little, I found that the Canon S1 IS has two extra image stabilizer settings for when the wide-angle or telephoto adapters are on the camera. Getting stable autofocus and stable image means the two automatic adjustments must not fight each other.

This also explains why my ability to focus at all was so strangely different with a +!, +2, and +4 close-up adapter. I could get much closer with the +2, which made no sense at all.

The lighting was a back light from the nearby window, regular overhead fluorescent and on-camera flash. I had no need for IS, at all!. I'll go junk those fuzzy shots, and take some new fuzzy shots today or tomorrow, if I find time They will still be fuzzy, because the moss looks pretty fuzzy -- just not utterly defocused.

I'm hiking again this afternoon up at Rock Creek Lake, so will keep an eye out for more variety.

    Apologies to those who looked.

Yep, Wright, coming in 5's. I'm still playing around with the 12x optical
zoom on my new Panasonic in "beginner mode." Hope to be sending you
some pics tomorrow. The pics that have come out totally blurred are
probably from the phenomena you've described. Thanks for the info!

I took another snapshot of the moss, yesterday. It is posted in the gallery, here:

    http://www.killies.com/forum/modules...view_photo.php

I had removed the earliers pics. Do I need to reload them for comparison purposes?

It is not doing great, but is surviving submersed. The tank has no fish and is getting a bit of BGA, which will do the moss no good. Should I toss it so I can do something more useful with this tank? Should I be patient and see where it goes?

I could add some fish and remove the BGA. Let me know what you think I should do.

Yep, looks cool, I'd stick it out and try to get rid of the BGA....and fish
    would be good.
