Tyrone, did Rudolf bring back the plagitaenium aka sp. "Oyo"?
Hi all
The fish pictured below, come from the collections made by Rudolf
Koubek when he was in Gabon. He has sold some fish to some friends
of mine in Port Elizabeth (Errol Scholtz and Herve Ferreira), and
these fish are breeding well (except for the herzogi). I
was unable to get a shot of the cameronense, but I can tell
you that they correspond to the Nsessoum phenotype of Cameroon,
that is pictured in Amiet's book.
All the fish were photographed in Herve's fishroom, except for the punctatum.
Photo 1. My young (just colouring up) Aphyosemion
punctatum Makokou K01. I hope to be able to take these back to
Italy (should the Italians ever get my new contract settled). It
promises to be a very attractive fish. It certainly does not seem
to be slow growing, and can stand 26°C without problems. It also
isn't very picky about food. It is a bit shy though. I thought the
long finned white clouds could coax them out as good dither fish
but no luck. But I think this behaviour may only be environmental.
It lush yellow colour suggests to me that it would need good
lighting to display properly, and so should be an out going fish.
The yellow in the tail already looks very nice. Very reminescint of Pronothobranchius kiyawensis.
Photo 2. A young male Aphyosemion lamberti Congo
Border K00. This is very much less than a good picture, but the
large amount of red is clearly visible. It does appear to be a
very nice looking fish (when I am not in a rush to try and take a
photo). Herve tells me he is getting fry off these fish, and could
probably scrape together some eggs... But he is kind of new to the
game of egg shipping and may need some guidance.
Photo 3 A "young" male Aphyosemion herzogi. I don't
know if it is the Red K99 or bochtleri K98 that Koubek
has... There is some confusion. This fish is about 5--6 cm in
length and is just beginning to colour up and mature. While the
females are ready to lay, the males seem to be firing blanks. At
Herve's home I saw large eggs in mops, but he tells me they just
vanished.
If you are interesting in trying a trade, you will have to do so
by snail mail. Address the post to: Herve Ferreira, 14 Keerom
Street, Despatch, 6220, South Africa.
Errol and Herve are eager to trade for annuals and non-annuals.

Fish.. Simply Irresistable
Back to Killies... slowly.
I'm afraid not.
I must take the time to get a new shot of the punctatum. The males have grown somewhat and are more colourful now.:-) Still no eggs though, but I haven't really set them up for breeding.
Keep well
