Madan Subramanian was at one of India's highest waterfall recently where he found this plant floating in one of the ponds around there. I think it is a Ludwigia sedioides but I'm not sure.

    Re: Plant ID

Is Ludwigia sedioides also commonly known as Water Chestnut plant?

    Loh,

We have many of these plants in malaysia too. I don't know what the actual name is but I know why it was grown for. During full moon fastival the chinese usually gives offering such as sweats, mooncakes and there is this nuts that looks like a Bull head with two horns and it is black in color. Can you recall that type of nut?

If yes, that is the plant that bears that Bullhead nuts. In Malaysia (in Hokkien we call it "Leng Kak")

Oh yes, I remember the nut that has a black shell and looks exactly like the horns of a bull. The meat inside is white in colour but the shell is damn hard to crack. It's been years since I've eaten such a nut. I wonder do people still eat them these days.
