    Folks,
Just got the latest "The Aquatic Gardener" and the first article is on mosses
penned by Professor Tan and KL! I'm sure KL got some copies, but I'm
trying to get 4-5 more to send for distribution. The pictures that accompany
the article will be most helpful when you want to identify a particular moss.
Especially if 2 or more of them get accidently mixed together on the same rock!

Thanks, KL and Professor Tan, great article!

I'm glad you like the article, Bill and Deborah but I can't claim any credit for this one. The professor wrote the article and all I did was to make some suggestions on how it can improved. My contribution, if any, was rather modest so I feel kind of uneasy that I've been named as co-author. But the professor insisted that my name appears in the article and Karen Randall, the editor felt the same way too. They were very nice to include my name but I don't deserve any credit for the article.

Anyway, I haven't received my free copies of TAG yet but I'm sure some are on their way.

Bill, unlike the article the prof wrote for the Singapore Science Magazine where the Taiwan Moss was only identified by genus, the article in TAG should carry the full scientific name. Would you like to announce it to the rest of the world?

    "Taxiphyllum alternans" for Taiwan Moss

and regular ol' java moss is "Taxiphyllum barbieri" presumably named
after the Argentenian tenor sax player, Gato Barbieri......NOT!

What we used to call java moss: "Vesicularia dubyana" is Singapore moss!

My 5 free copies of TAG arrived yesterday. Many thanks to Cheryl Rogers of the AGA who said she will send another 10 for the professor.

I must say the moss article is one of the best so far. It's even better than the one in the Singapore Science magazine as the one in TAG includes the Weeping Moss. The professor was worried that the pictures won't turn out well but I think he will be delighted when I show the magazine to him later.

If you're a moss guy, this issue of TAG is a must-have.

Gan, if you're reading this, please drop by anytime to pick up your free copy.

I gave a copy of this issue of TAG to Karin Leow of Far East Aquatics and aother to Chan of Nature Aquarium. I intend to give one to Mr Teo of Teo's Aquatics too. I'm distributing the magazine around the fish shops/farms so that those Singaporeans who are interested in the moss article can get to read it.

In a couple of months, I'll put up the article on this forum. In the meantime, I don't want to steal the thunder from TAG. Membership should have its privileges.

Yudy, I'm afraid there's no pdf file. I have the article and the pictures in my computer but now isn't the right time to post it. Please be patient. The article, together with the relevant pictures and more, will eventually be uploaded to this forum. As I've already explained earlier, it's not a nice thing to do this now because it would be *stealing the thunder* from the AGA (Aquatic Gardeners' Association) which publishes the magazine. Members of the AGA pay subscription fees so some privileges should be accorded to them.

I hope you understand what I mean. I know, in this age of the internet, where information flows freely, one shouldn't hoard information but I'm not hoarding the article. I'm just waiting for the right time to post it, that's all.

Thank you for being so understanding, Yudy.

Certainly, the article is more informative than the last one. Besides revealing the scientific name of the Taiwan Moss, the professor also touched on Weeping Moss which was left out in the last article. When I upload the article to this forum, I intend to give you all the bigger file pictures so that the microscope images of the cells are clearer to you. Other than those which appeared in the magazine, I also intend to put up more pictures of the various mosses to help hobbyists identify their mosses better. The magazine has problems with space so they can only publish a limited number of pictures. But here in this forum, space is not a problem

    Yudy,

The moderators of the forum tolerate a bit of off-topic posting and even hijacking of threads but we consider it a great sin to "ups" a thread. Also, posts that are of interest to only one user, for instance, "You got pm" are a violation of our rules. Please take note.

You got some nice pictures of mosses there though. Feel free to start a new thread on them. Thank you.

On the contrary, Kenny, I'm sure the AGA sends TAG to subscribers living in Canada. Have you tried contacting them?

As I've said earlier, please be patient. I will upload the article and all relevant pictures when the next issue of TAG comes out. That would probably be sometime in early January next year.
