I was thinking if we put non-annual eggs onto Betta bubble nest. Would the male betta look after the alien for the duration of 7 to 14 days until it hatch?

I don't think it will work. Annual eggs are rather dense and heavy, far more than Betta eggs. I don't think the male will be able to keep pace. But feel free to try. I might just be wrong and you will of made a remarkable discovery contrary to popular belief.

You could try J. floridae eggs. If spawned in a deep tank, they often contain a tiny oil bubble that makes them float, so they can be blown ashore with the floating plants. The babies have a difficult time if they cannot reach the surface oxygenated layer, so the poppa might help them do that.

Thanks Wright/ Tyron. I was thinking more of Rivulus kind of big and heavy for betta isn't it? I suppose i can put some floating plants to hlp support the eggs. While the bubble keep the egg moist. Lots of oxygen, no fungus (as the betta would clean it) and moist all the time.

    Oh no, am i dreaming.

Whether your idea works or not, Kee Hoe, it gets my vote for the most radical idea for incubating Killifish eggs But seriously, I was at a fish shop the other day when I saw a pair of Angelfish guarding a brood of eggs. Instead of Bettas, Angelfish could be better surrogate parents. All you have to do is throw in your Killifish eggs and they will pick them up and guard it as their own.

Thanks KL. I take that as a compliment. I think Betta is easier to keep compare to any other fish that can do the job.
