There was a talk on Caridina shrimp species in Sulawesi yesterday at the university, and I did a summary transcription of the sesssion.

The relative isolation and broad range of habitats in the lakes there seem to have proven favourable to rapid speciation of Caridina shrimps, with many species displaying unique colours and distinctive habitat adaptations. All the lake species are also pure freshwater shrimps, needing no saline phase for larva grow-out. So they might be easy to breed in captivity, although it was noted that the lakes have a very high oxygen level (aquatic plants are abundant) and the shrimps would need such conditions in aquariums.

Hi, I finally had time to read through that, it was interesting. Thanks for putting it up. Hopefully one day i might make it to some of these places to see for myself. The speciation is something I am interested in. Not to mention some of them look very nice

    Thanks again,
