    Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to introduce myself. I live in New York City with my wife and 2 year old son. I have browsing this website to learn about keeping killies. For the past 10 years I have kept African Cichlids and a reef tank.
I live in a loft in New York and do not have the space (or basement) for a large amount of large tanks. I have always been fascinated by killies. Seeing that many of you are from Singapore, I am sure most of you have fish racks on apartments. I look forward to hearing about your experiences.

Re: New From New York City

Which borough in NYC are you at, Andy. I'm glad you decided to post instead of lurk. Don't worry about beginners' questions since that's how we all got started.... by asking and making our share of mistakes.

About tanks and racks, space is a premium in Singapore as most as apartment dwellers and having multi-tier setups is pretty much the only option. Let me dig around past threads and other links tor some of my racks which are always "under construction"; adopting new ideas or simply trying out different ways of stuffing more killies within the same space

Stick around and enjoy your visits. There's much we have to learn from each other.
I'm back & keeping 'em fingers wet,

Thanks for your reply and your help. I would love to see some set ups. I have tried a search, but could not find any set ups on the site.

I live in Manhattan in Chelsea (20th Street on the West Side). I look forward to learning more.

Andy, let me clean up my rack a little and I'll post up a pic soon.

By the way, welcome to the forum.

    Hi Andy,

Although I neither live in an apartment nor in Singapore, I have similar sort of problem with space! As my tanks breed faster than my fish

Here is a photo of some of my tanks

I got 4 setups fimilar in design, some have 4 tanks per shelf, others 5 and some 6 tanks. As you can see I got the tanks made and got glass cut and siliconed "particians" in. As each compartment is a closed system; ie. water tight, I consider each compartment as a tank.

I also divided a 4 footer into 4 compartments etc. To give you some idea of what you can do.

    Cheers,

    Serkan

    Hi Andy,
For most of us here space is a big problem, even overseas new housing is getting smaller. I generally stick with the plastic "critter keepers" they are cheap have good lids and can be stored easily. They are also easy to move around and handle. Generally I would prefer rows of nice big glass tanks but thats just not practical for my situation 9 floors up.

Nice to have you around anyway.

    Thanks again,

Any pics of set-ups are much appreciated. I have actually been debating on critter keepers versus a tanks with dividers like the beautiful set up shown from Australia. I will probably do a combination of both.

Andy, an old image of my rack system. I haven't been taking photos of the new setup but its similar to this, except that it looks a lot neater now.
