Hi

Can anyone id this moss. It just start growing well and extended it length, don't know how long can it grow... the pic show the length about 8cm...

It's likely to be Singapore Moss, Steven. This moss is highly variable so it can appear in different forms. In the right conditions, the fronds can grow very long.

thanks for the info, how come it call singapore moss not malaysia moss??

cause I found it in my mother-in-law (Johor) cement tank which she put outside the house with some fish inside. It grow on the wall surround the tank.

We call it Singapore Moss because this moss is commonly found in Singapore and was popularised by the aquarists in Singapore. It was officially named Singapore Moss in this article that clarifies the true identity of the more popular aquarium mosses.

The Singapore Moss can be found in many countries around South East Asia but as Gan has explained, it's so named because we (Singaporeans) were the first to popularise it. I think we deserve the credit

What can be a gross injustice though, is if we discover later that the Taiwan Moss does not originate from Taiwan but from another country

oh...that's how the name come from .. hehe

If I manage to find some new species of moss over Sarawak than will name it SS moss :P (SS = Sarawak Steven's moss )
