Ok I am always browsing around here and usually don't post much. But I hope to change this soon. Recently my Foerschi have sexed out enough that they look darn good in pics. So I took the time to get a few and here is one that I think shows his colors the best. Now this is my first time with this particular strain of notho, anyone have any tips or tricks that might help me out with them?

    Hi,
They are nice little fish and seem to not be very aggressive. These are a typical notho. In my opinion the number one rule for Nothos is to keep them clean. They seem very susceptible to bad water and will drop dead fast as soon as conditions deteriorate, where other fish may become stressed nothos will just die. So be careful to not overfeed etc.
If they are coloured up, I would put some peat in. For Nothos I use the coco peat as it messes with the water less. I find they will just lay on the tank bottoms anyway but a dish of peat gives them a territory to lay in and stops them picking eggs and makes it easier to collect.
I know everyone says to use salt but I have never bothered, but I definitely keep my Notho tanks as clean as possible. My own opinion is that velvet and all the others are generally there anyway, it is only under stress that they infect fish. I do add some coral sand - a few grains to the tanks to buffer the water and add some hardness though. I think also this adds a few "mixed" salts to the water.

    Good luck with them,
    Scott
    Thanks again,

Vasko, that is a mutation in the population. I think someone from Singapore also had these yellowish fish appear in one batch of fry.

By the way, welcome to the forum. Zdrasti? Is that how you greet your fellow Bulgarians? I saw that on a webpage somewhere. If you know Todor, tell him I said hello.

Nice to know that Todor's your friend. He's a nice person.

My advice would be to keep this male separate from the breeding group. If he is kept with the breeding group chances are, he might be the father of some fry and the next few generations may produce mutations like him.

If you wish to keep him then I guess you can try to line-breed and fix the mutation in a separate line, much like Mafia Yellow or Mafia Red for Notho. korthausae or the Blue line for Notho. guentheri.

    Hi,

I do have one that are from normal parents. But I do not select them for breeding. This might be due to the weak genes passed down from their parents...
