I think you've already done all that is needed to get mosses to grow fast. By spreading them out, all the fronds are exposed to light. That's trick number oneIt does not matter if they are tied to driftwoods or rocks but the surfaces should be rough enough for the moss to cling on. Not all mosses cling but Java is one good clinger
As for fertilisation, mosses need very little of it.
If your Christmas is growing a lot slower than your Java, it could be that some critters in your tank are eating the new growth. What fish do you have in your tanks? Besides SAEs, Yamato shrimps eat mosses too.
