Finally got around to setting up some 5s today:

I'll be making a wooden light hood to light up all 3 tanks better.

Deborah, that's an old TV stand that had a scratched-up 15 gallon.
These 3 tanks replaced it, is all. The TV stand a friend found for $5
in a garage sale. After measuring the top I told him to grab it for me as
I knew I'd eventually be placing three 5.5 gallon tanks on it, perfect fit

Well, just by accident, really, I have 2 baby WAL/GH2. I moved the 2
pairs into another tank and left the 7 gallon empty or so I thought. Six to
7 weeks went by and all I was doing with the 7 gallon was topping up the
water, ferting the plants occasionally, and noticed last week the 2 babies!
They are in a 2 gallon fishbowl and will be placed in one of the 5s when
they grow a little more, will try for a pic later. The parents are back in
the 7, and I will remove them in 2 more weeks (I have 4 more 5s to set
up). I am contemplating placing a pair or trio of Mundemba in one of the
    5s to see what happens....

Please do that, Bill <rubbing hands in glee>

Nice job rigging 'em up. Neat look that allows 3 specie-dedicated setups in a small footprint. The styrene lids are one-piece and there aren't any feeding holes, so how are you going to feed the fishes... lift the lid? [no handle or loops for the fingers either].

The size of hang-on filters look right for the tank but I would have used the Matten filter for low maintenance. The black sponge will double as a backdrop that highlight the colors of the fishes even more.

Keep us updated. I have plans on the drawing board for a 4-tier rack using 5's as well, so it'd be interesting to see how yours work out.
I'm back & keeping 'em fingers wet,

Ronnie, the tops are white eggcrate diffuser panels for fluorescent
lighting. Have 5/8" square holes so no problem with feeding. Kee Hoe
sent me some sponge filters so I used them on the intake of the power
filters. When I move over, you'll have to show me where to buy the nice
    black foam

I love the setup, we (in the USA) commonly call the material that was used for the lids "egg crate" because of all the holes, it also makes a good material for an in take divider if you have larger fish.
