I have settled on using the Jiffy Pellets for all my fish-breeding needs.
They should be available from any major seed catalog, and I think Burpee's et al will probably ship internationally.
The one recommended has always been the No. 7, but many sources here, like K-Mart don't identify them that way. Since I boil a pellet in a 2-cup pyrex measuring cup, in the microwave, and then rinse well under the cold-water faucet, any added fertilizers, fungicides, insecticides, etc. seem to be all removed. The boiled peat also sinks, readily.
All the Jiffy pellets contain some added lime, to reduce their tendency to burn seedlings. Therefore, the pH-lowering properties are less than you might expect. This is a blessing for those with soft water, as peat without the lime can cause serious "pH Crash." Don't expect to see lime on the label, as there is no legal requirement to list it, and US folks have been so brainwashed about chemical additives that such simple things are marketing disasters.
One huge advantage of the lime is that it gives the divalent Ca++ ions a chance to displace the ammonium and that goes right down the drain.
For those not wanting to buy a carton of 1000 pellets, Ruth Warner usually has an ad in the Fish and Egg section of the AKA Business News Letter. Borrow a copy from your local AKA member and e-mail Ruth. I bet she will ship to SG if asked nicely. The postage will be significant, though.
These days, my baled peat gets used in the garden, and maybe (5% by volume) in newly set up tank substrates. I still boil and rinse it to reduce its chemical activity to aquarium levels.
