Got some suppose to be erect moss about a year and a half ago from one of the bros here. Originally tied to a piece of drift wood and placed near the back of the tank. But after some time. It began to form the christmas tree triangle shape and also began to cling onto the back of the tank. Right now it look as in the picture below:

Are erect moss suppose to grow like that? Totally loss in terms of what moss do I really have in the tank?

Btw, I do have some christmas or taiwan moss in there too. Sorry I forgot what exactly it was. But they do look different from my background moss. They are finer and has a lighter green. Pic as below:

Looks like spiky moss you've got there... But then spiky and Taiwan sometimes look alike...

Humm.....how on earth spikey moss gets into my tank??? Thanks anyway. The strangest part is that initially, the erect moss looks like erect moss. But eventually, the piece of wood that I tie the 'erect' moss was taken by moss of this form and spread to cover the rear styrofoam of the tank. Anyway, whatever it is, I am quite enjoying the effect it is creating to the tank.

cairocks, if you intend to have erect moss like those first started by sam yick, I agree with justkianz that the picture looks more like spiky or taiwan moss. I am more inclined to say it is taiwan moss.

There are times when some forumers sell spiky moss as "erect moss". They may not be totally wrong because spiky moss can grow, as the name suggests, spiky and slightly upright. But the commonly known "erect moss" (vesticularia reticulata) is totally different from spiky moss (Taxiphyllum sp.) Go check out www.aquamoss.net for their pictures.

At the end of the day, if you like what you see in your tank, what the heck?

Yup, actually I am ok with what ever moss is that. Just that I am curious what could it be. Found an old picture of what that moss use to look like initially. It is the moss on the right side of the shrimp tank. Really looks different hor.

ok. Now it certainly looks like the commonly known erect moss. Erect moss requires good light to grow well.

Moss is difficult to differentiate under different condition.

I really couldn't imagine my weeping moss becomes like that:-

Humm....It slowly turned like that since I change to 3X36w PL lights for my 20 gallon tank about a year ago. At first thought it is due to the high temperature.(Using fans for cooling that time). But they grew even faster, but retaining the form, since I installed a chiller about a month ago. The temperature I am maintaining now is between 25.5 to 27.5C.
