Nice tank, Dom. What moss are you growing? Are you using the power sand from ADA for your base fertiliser? It seems like "overkill" to use such an expensive product when all you grow are just mosses, don't you think?

    Hi Loh,

    How are you doing?

I am using ADA Power Sand as base. Power Sand is not the base fertilizer as far as i know. It is good for bacteria to grow. If Power Sand Special, then that is different story. It contained fertilizer which power sand don't have.

About the mosses inside the tank. Those on the ground are java moss. Those on the wood and rocks are 'Singapore' moss. The 3 'mountains' are mini type of christmas moss. Foreground under the 1st mountain from your left is spiky moss. There are more erect moss behind the middle mountain which can't really see inside the picture.

I'm fine, Dom. How are you and your aquatic plant club doing?

As far as I know, power sand refers to the base fertiliser. What you are using is probably ADA's aquasoil. You also mentioned River Sand in your first post in this thread. Would that be ADA's River Sand or is it some other brand?

I'm surprised there are so many types of mosses in your tank. Without a close-up, they look like it's just one moss.

How's the Erect Moss doing in your tank, Dom? Over here, the Erect has practically disappeared from the aquaria scene. In everyone's tank I know, they have all turned brown and died.

It doesn't look like a standard 2 feet tank to me!

Dom, could you provide us with the name of the fish used?

    Hi Loh,

Club stuff doing fine. Getting members in and share the fun of aquascaping. Beside that, we do need experts like you to share the knowledge, experience n information. Feel free please visit www.my-mac.net

I was told by ADA agent about this. ADA soil especially Amazonia container higher fertilizer. Power Sand made by pumice which you were posted quite sometime ago. Which is mainly for bacteria grow.

The river sand is those which i bought from hardware shop. Was told it is river sand. I was facing some difficulty to take this photograph. Due to my lousy camera skill. So, made the tank look like just with a type of moss.

Hahaha...Yes. The Erect moss can't make it.

Squee, the fishes are Boraras brigittae. This fish is very fragile. Killed 80% of them when I trimming the moss or knocking the tank glass to take the photograph. They will just have heart attack and died within a minute.

    Dom,

Your forum looks promising. I'm no expert but I registered myself as a member. When I have time, I'll try to share what I know about aquatic plants with your members.

ADA's Power Sand is actually a mixture of peat and pumice. It's hard to find pumice in Singapore these days but I think the nurseries in Kuala Lumpur may have it.

As for the Erect Moss, do you know of anyone in Malaysia who still have healthy specimens? I don't know the solution to stop the browning but the moment it happens, the only way to "rescue" the moss is to cut off the brown parts, wash the remaining green parts and and transfer them to another tank.

There are lot of lfs in Kuala Lumpur/Selangor selling the pumice nowadays. Most of the buyers are using it in Koi pond.

Yes. One of the material is peat which is to maintain the PH.

About the erect moss. Let me check with my members. I believe some of them still keeping it.

KL, does that ring a bell?

Dominic, they had become rare over here. How much would a 20Kg of pumice cost?
