This is the wild form of the male Aplocheilus lineatus from Periyar, India. It has an interesting powder blue on the dorsal surface and upper snout.

Ronnie (or anyone else), I have only ONE male specimen and no females. However there are feral A. lineatus populations in Singapore, so possibly you might like to breed it with one of the local females? If so, let me know.

why I don't do garden hybrids and aquarium strains: natural species is a history of Nature, while hybrids are just the whims of Man.

    Choy,
Nice specimen! If there were matching females, you know I won't hesitate but nah... thanks anyway! (I want time to work on those Parotocinclus sp. Peru )
I'm back & keeping 'em fingers wet,

    Choy Heng Wah,

Looking at this feral species, I find it odd that here in the USA, Aplocheilus Lineatus has been bred to show only the gold color (sold commonly under the name 'Golden Wonder'). I find the feral form far more attractive than the golden form of this species. Best of luck finding someone who can pair up your specimen.
    Thank you,
    -Peter L.

Peter, the fish being shown is not feral, it is wild caught in Periyar, India.

    Choy Heng Wah,

You're right, I don't know why I said feral. My apologies.
    Thank you,

Very nice lineatus there Choy, but why didn't the Indian shipper send you females along with it?

I don't know, maybe he wants all the female for breeding?

That is probably the most beautiful A. lineatus I have ever seen. I have always liked these fish and found some of the Golden type in a small pet shop outside of my city. I picked them all up and gave a trio away to a fellow hobbyist. Mine had a fatal disease that killed off all of my females but his have spawned which is good and I am glad I separated the stock. Good luck with finding females for your lineatus Choy as that specimen is very nice.

My sentiments exactly! What a beautiful specimen! Heng Wah, good luck
finding females! Damnable shame they weren't included.
