How do you guys feel about using goldenpearls as fry food? I seem to have mixed results. My a splendepluere(sp?) seem Ok but my SA annuals seem to suffer. I use the smallest grain size.

    Hi,
I had poor results with golden pearls, regardless of granularity size when
I kept A. splendopleure Ombe River '99 in Maine. Their reaction generally
ranged from abject repudiation to complete indifference Other stuff
gotten from Brine Shrimp Direct was treated much more favorably, such
as the blood worms, decapsulated brine shrimp eggs (for fry food), and
sumptin' else I can't seem to remember I now use frozen brine shrimp,
frozen blood worms (the dry stuff gives me hayfever attacks from hell)
and Hikari micropellet plus live blackworms, and mosquito larvae (still
    currently in season)

I got a bag of the generic version from Ken's Fish a while ago and have used it to feed betta and dwarf cichlid fry (When I am away and can't trust my roommate to hatch brine shrimp) with no losses. Even used it to feed cyp fry for a week when I was at the ACA this year.

While the growth rate is in no way comparable to BBS, I think it is a useful standby.

My cichlid fry all enjoy the stuff. I also bought my bag from Ken's Fish at the NEC.
I need to find a more reliable non-perishable killi fry food. The last heat wave here zapped my microworms and I want to have a nice back up besides BBS.

I have used, purely as backup, the dehydrated decapped artemia cysts from Brineshrimpdirect.com. If the babies have had live bbs, they will go for the dead cysts that are even more nutritious.

Have you considered vinegar eels, MK? I've had a culture going for years... I sub-culture once or twice a year, since I rarely have the occasion to feed them to my fry.

Wright's idea of decapsed eggs is a good one, too.

There was a thread here a while ago on Tim Addis' killie food. You might want to look into that as well.

I have done vinegar eels in the past. I wanted more of a "will not go bad ever" type food.

I will definately look int the artemia cysts.

    Thanks guys.
