How low will the Temp be?

I think the problem is with the air circulation. To raise the lights, check out the generic light holders to see if they will fit your needs. I think it goes by the product name or brand name of "Macro".

As for the fans, turn them on continuously while the lights are on. I get 28 celcius on warmer months and 27 on the cooler months... even 26 on a few rainy days.

Here's my 2 cents worth. I bought my 5 inch Japanese fan from Sim Lim Square at $20 and had to pay additional $2 for the power cable. Fan is pretty quiet as the bulk of noise seems to come from the air flow rather than the fan itself eg the noise is louder when the water level has lowered as a result of evaporation. I have my fan shooting directly at the surface although that is apparently not recommended. Only problem I face is "turbulance/choppy waters" when I fill my tank to the top. I run my tank in an enclosed wall cupboard and temp hovers around 27/28 degrees. Fan is never turned off.

The problem with the clearance of the lights on the fish tank can be solved if your tanks are one of those with glass latches at the sides. What i did for my macro light was to elevate it using a wooden platform that i've built. I bought strips of wood and glued them together to make 2 platforms for teh 2 sides. mine was elecvated ard 10 cm, you can always stack it higher though. Bras Basah Complex sells the wooden strips and glue needed.

I juz got my fan. Blowing in directly into the water surface. Cuased a lot of terbulance on the surface. But within 1 hour i makes the water tamp to between 27-28degrees. Great achievement rite? Haha!
Wat will happen if i get another fan blowing into it? 26? or maybe even 25???

What is the size of the tank? Most ppl can get about 27 to 28 degrees on average. 26 maybe on rainy days. There is a limit where adding more fans will not drop temperatures any furthur.

Thanks for the lead Vinz, will keep my eyes open in LFS for "Macro" and if that doesn't work out, Checkerboard's idea will probably help. Only if I can't get my lazy muscles to DIY it into something of reasonable workmanship.

Forgot to mention that if I remember right, I saw them at C328. They are designed to fit on the top edge of the glass, so if you have those tanks with the black plastic lips, they may not fit. Examine them to see if they will fit your tank. Look around, there are one or two other generic ones with different fittings.

hey guys just wanna try this out .

lets say i have a rectangle hood that totally covers the tank's top except for a hole which can open/close for feeding . the 2 lights takes up all the room at the top , but wat if i put the fans at the side of the hood ? so its blowing sideways instead , and that should create lesser turbulence . isit better this way or putting the fan at where the lights are

Vinz, My tank is a standard 2ft one. Got the temperature at 26-27 today. Maybe due to the cold weather today. Haha! Happy with the result. But the noise level is a bit too high for me. Lucky im out for most of the daylight period. Haha!

When you say daylight period, do you mean 0700 - 1900 hrs. Normally my cooling timing depends on my lighting period as that's the warmest tank conditions.

AC fan are really noisy. You may want to opt for DC fan which are more easier to the ears.

Sherchoo, Im out like the time u mentioned. long studying days... MAking me no time to look at my tanks. Haha! Bought an AC fan oleady... But maybe a DC will be for my display tank outside. Haha! Where can i get them?

blowing sideways will help if the air is being moved out of the hood. if the air is being circulated in the hood only, there will be lesser cooling.

since we want evaporative cooling, i think it will be better to have the fan blowing across the water and adjust the fan to minimise surface turbulance. just inject slightly more co2 to compensate the loss.
