Friend of mine who keeps a couple of species siphons out the bottom of the tank once a week and tops it up.
I change about 10% of the water in my Scriptaphyosemion tanks once a week now.

Joe,
I experimented with 100% water change, once a month and since the fishes took well to it, I've been doing that ever since. While I'm at it, I'll clean the sponge filter, stir up the gravel and make a mess of the tank. The siphoned water goes into a large pail so I can retrieve fry after the mulm has settled.
Tank is refilled slowly, via reduced output pressure from a 3-module sediment/activated carbon jig [Just ask Wright about these... he swears by them]
YMMV of course.

Thanks Ronnie I appreciate the information and I shall give it a try. I am definitely interested in the reduced output pressure from a 3 module sediment/activated carbon jig though and will ask Wright for sure. Also what does YMMV stand for ?

Joe,
I'm not sure what filtration modules are available in Canada but have a look at Kwek Leong's setup and here's mine. [In case you didn't noticed, I've embedded the links to the relevant threads - click on the bold text]
Wright, yooohooo.... we're talking about your favourite subject!![]()
oh, and YMMV means "Your Mileage May vary" [or what works great for me may not be the best solution for you!:P ]

Joe,
You'll have to wait up for others in the USA to post prices and availability. Got mine for under SG$100 but chances are, these in-line modules may go by a different name in the West.
