New RED LIVERWORT.

Ok Wilma Duncan and my self received some of this Red Liverwort from Tom Barr. He collected it here in the U.S. in california.

Does anyone know what would be the best approach as far as care would be?

timebomb i would be more than willing to send some to you for research if it would help with learning of how to care for it.

William,

I'll be happy to help you identify your Red Liverwort by bringing it to the professor but probably, we won't be able to tell you how to take care of it. Not if it's a plant that is new to the hobby anyway. Professor Benito Tan may be a world-renowned bryologist but that does not necessarily mean he knows how to grow them, if you know what I mean.

As far as I know, the few liverworts that are already in the hobby now, Riccia fluitans, Monoselenium tenerum etc are relatively easy to grow. Liverworts, after all, are simple plants. Just like mosses, they don't require much.

Thank you very much timebomb. I will say hi to Wilma the next time i call her which is usually once a day.

It will be a couple more weeks before i can get this off to because i want to make sure it bounces back from it's trip to me.

But could you please tell me how i would go about mailing this to you as i have never mailed to anyone overseas? I also don't know how much it would cost or how long it would take to get there.

Wilma has had me put together a list of moss that we don't have and i am now looking for them. So you will be seeing a lot more of me.

It costs me about Sing $1.60 (about USD1.05) to send a small package of moss to anyone anywhere in the world. Take a look at this post to see exactly how I do it.

How'd you manage to get that from Tom?? I've been asking for some for a while.

He has said it's super prolific and easy to grow. An Excell overdose will kill it if you need to keep it in check.

fish newb- This was sent to me for Wilma Duncan and my self for her program. I am her plant scout and at times take in plants for her and at times trade for new ones with her consent.

Robert- I will try and take some pics if i find some batteries, but i am not sure they will be all that clear with my camera.

Sadly no. I don't know why i can't get this stuff to grow at all. It just seems to sit there. I wish i could figure out how to grow it.

This stuff is red algae (Rhodophyta)

Propably its scientific name is Caloglossa cf. beccarii.
